A Little Lake Love

This past weekend, not wanting to break our trend of either having company or being out of town EVERY single weekend since bringing the girls home, we ventured to Lake Martin with the Williams side of the family for a weekend at the lake. We have decided these out of town excursions are great now that we know how to pack up our whole house a little faster =) The not so enjoyable part is that I was running a 102+ fever as we made the decision to still go which seems to be par for the course these days. This is the 2nd round of mastitis/sickness I’ve had and man it is not fun, not to mention VERY challenging to take care of two babies when you can barely take care of yourself. But, knowing if I could suck it up and endure the car trip, the girls would once again have many extra hands to help feed, change, and be loved on. Boy are they spoiled with love! Not too many quiet moments were had with the exception of the one time where all but the newest parents were on the boat. The girls had fallen fast asleep and we weren’t far behind them. It was great to spend time with family, enjoy being out on the water, eat some delicious food to keep feeding these two babies, and let our girls be loved on by Aunts, Uncles, Mimi and Grandpa and that they were! Now we are just anxiously awaiting the arrival of our first nephew!

Fourth of July at our Alma Mater

Turkey Wraps from Amsterdams. That was the one thing on my mind when the plans were finalized to spend the 4th of July in Auburn. I could not wait to get my hands on those tasty wraps of goodness drenched in honey mustard =) Doesn’t take much to make this girl a happy little camper! The weekend was kicked off by celebrating the marriage of Kendall’s uncle at Children’s Harbor on Lake Martin. We enjoyed seeing Kendall’s side of the family again, partaking in a delicious sit down lunch of crab cakes and filet mignon (just like my everyday lunch), and catching up with cousins! After leaving the wedding, we drove to Auburn and met the rest of the Currie’s for a two nights stay at the Marriott’s RTJ Grand National. It wasn’t the fabulous company and great food that Kendall enjoyed most, although that was great, it was the whole night of sleep his parents graciously gave him both nights. The freedom he said he felt when falling asleep those nights knowing he could sleep for 8 hours straight was unfathomable! There is not much that could serve that boy more than to offer him sleep these days =) For those of you that know Kendall, you can appreciate the fact that it takes an act of God to wake him up usually but now that the baby girls are here, he has stepped up to the plate and is able to “semi” function as a helper for the middle of the night feedings. Key word being semi! We thoroughly enjoyed spending a relaxing weekend where more memories than we can count were made in college. We dined on some yummy food at Amsterdam’s and Mellow Mushroom, attended the God and Country service at Lakeview Baptist on Sunday along with a round of golf for the hubby. Then we had a blast taking the girls on a walk on Samford lawn on the fourth of July and snapping a few pictures in their patriotic dresses. We wrapped up the 4th with a good ole southern meal from Cracker Barrell and this nursing mom left nothing but the jelly containers on her plate. Licked my plate clean as my husband once again was astounded at the portions I can consume these days. It was a memorable weekend and a fabulous fourth! We thank God for the freedom to worship HIM freely and for the men and women who have helped fight for that to be a reality.

3 Months Already!

Dear Maddie Grace and Makenzie,
Wow, have you grown since the day you were born and wow, have you captured our hearts or what! You both are incredibly precious to us and it’s hard to fathom you are 3 months old already! It seems like just yesterday you made your appearance into this world and changed our lives forever! You both are soooo cute to us and we are “those” parents who just stare at you and marvel at every adorable thing you do and each new milestone in your lives and it’s only been a couple months. You both started smiling A LOT this month and you began that within a day of each other so that was incredibly fun! Now we greatly look forward to your endearing looks and smiles you give us each day. Some things we have started doing together is praying as a family. Your daddy and I want you to see that evident in our lives and so each night we pray for you girls as we lay you down to sleep. Mommy also prays aloud for you and with you to model that throughout the day while you are eating =) Mommy also tries to read from your little storybook Bible every day and that is definitely a highlight of the day. Makenzie, you have slept through a good bit of it while Maddie Grace you are very intent on staring at what seems like the pictures but who knows! All I know is it’s never too early to start learning the story of God’s redemption in our lives! We pray for your hearts so much and pray and long for the day when your eyes will be opened for your need for a Savior! We hope we can point you to the cross and Lord daily in everything we do. What a humbling task it is for us as your parents but we are so grateful for that privilege and responsibility.

So what are we up to these days?
• Maddie Grace weighs in right around 10 lbs while Makenzie is still a pound lighter at 9lbs! Gaining great weight and that makes us so thankful!
• You both eat like champs most of the time and usually take about 4 oz per feeding eating about 6 times a day (one still being in the middle of the night!) We look forward to you sleeping through the night, but you are both making tremendous improvement!
• You usually go down for bed anywhere from 10:30-12:30 at night and then we feed you around 3-4am and then sleep again until 7 or 8. The nights have gotten so much better since we moved you all to your cribs. The crib sleeping began by default when the air conditioning went out and we all slept down in the baby room together! At the beginning of this month, MG was still sleeping in the nap nanny and Makenzie had been sleeping in her car seat to help with the reflux. Still have had some tough nights of sleep in the crib, but all in all, HUGE leaps and bounds!
• We don’t have a schedule per se during the day other than feeding every 3 hours-I try to put you down for one nap in the crib but other than that you both usually dictate your play/sleep time during the day.
• Well, we have gotten out a lot-Mommy usually tries to take you at least on one outing per day and you girls usually do great! Of course, our window is short knowing we won’t have long before feeding time starts again but nonetheless it is great to get out! We have gone all over Birmingham and have enjoyed meeting friends for lunch and going grocery shopping together!
• We also have traveled out of town almost every weekend! You both do great in your car seats and it’s a great chance for mommy and daddy to catch up on talking since you both fall fast asleep usually!
• Makenzie is still our little snuggler! She loves to be held close, have your hand on her, or a little lovey up by her sweet face. That usually does the trick of putting her to sleep! She also appears to be a little afraid of being alone or in the dark. Her eyes get so wide eyed when we head down to the nursery at night. Makenzie smiles all the time and has been since around 11 weeks!
• Maddie Grace is still a very content and patient baby unless she is hungry or needs a diaper change! She is such an easy baby and smiles when she is fed and content! She is such a curious baby and we catch her looking all around whenever we are in a new environment. She is always taking everything in and figuring out her surroundings!
• Both of you have begun “talking” to us-we love to hear your cooing and all the noises you make when trying to communicate
• You both find your thumb if you can’t find your paci’s. Makenzie loves her thumb a lot more than MG though
• You both got your first colds right at 3 months-Maddie Grace’s cleared up quicker than Makenzie’s. Makenzie ended up a little more sick with diarrhea and a lack of appetite =)
We love you both more than words can say and are so thankful the Lord has entrusted the task of parenting to us. We couldn’t be more blessed than to have you girls in our lives and we pray we make the most of every moment we have with you both! Thank you for the things you are teaching us about the way God loves us. It sure has changed our perspectives and we are eternally thankful for that! We love you both so much and I love being your mom!
