Our little Ashton Kate is 8 Months Already!

 8 MONTH STATS:
Weight: a little over 19lbs
Height: roughly 27 inches
Teeth: NONE
Clothes: 6 month and some 9 month
Diapers: Size 3
To our blue-eyed little girl,
My darlin’ little punkin, where have these 8 months gone!? They literally seem to be passing so quickly! You my dear are still an absolute delight! We could kiss your sweet cheeks all day long, if given the chance! The months are flying by way too fast and I feel like in the blink of an eye, we will be celebrating your first birthday! Boy do we praise God for your life! You are such a picture to us of God’s merciful grace to us. It has deepened my faith in Christ as we see how much He truly does care for His children. He knew exactly what we needed in a third baby and has given us such grace through you. You are still just the sweetest baby ever! We are enthralled by you and sing praises to our Creator over how thankful we are for you! You are growing and changing so much everyday it seems but the one thing this month that has just melted our hearts is the love you share with your two sisters. This month especially, the bond between you three has been so evident. Makes us so, so excited about the future with you three! If you are awake, your sisters want to be near you. They smother you with love, affection, playtime with you, and will jump around and act as silly as possibly just to bring a smile to your face or to hear you laugh! They want to be where you are. SO SO sweet! And now that you aren’t quite as fragile, they ask to hold you facing them and get all up in your face to admire you, read stories to you, shake toys for you, etc. You hung the moon in their eyes and they will usually do anything for you! You are their baby too! =) We hope and pray we love you well. That we take advantage of every opportunity to shepherd your precious heart to your Savior. He is all you need. He is more than enough for you. He has died for you and we pray you see how much you need Him to rescue you from yourself. We pray we model how much we need Him in our lives too! Ashton Kate, you are truly a gift from above and we love you from the bottom of our hearts!
Love, Mommy & Daddy
Milestones & Memories from 7-8 months:
-Still going strong nursing and pumping for you sweet girl! You are still a peculiar little thing in that you will only nurse in the rocking chair with the sound machine on and half asleep =) So if mommy can catch you asleep, we’re in luck and if you are wide awake we usually have to do a pumped bottle. (frustrating to mommy, but minor in the big scheme of things!)
-Your schedule these days is to nurse roughly at 5, 8, 11, 2, 5, 8 give or take and then for naps, you go down around 9:15ish and sleep from 1-1.5hrs. We usually skip the next nap to get out of the house so then you make up for it and sleep for usually 3+ hrs when you go down around 2:15ish! Sometimes we squeeze in a 30min nap later if need be, sometimes not! Even when you miss naps, you are generally still super pleasant thankfully! You definitely go with the flow of the family!
-Still no teeth yet!
-You ate your 1st squeeze pack of baby food at Newk’s on your dinner date with mommy on 6/5
-Then on 6/6 you got to ride in the shopping cart sitting up for the first time! You loved it!
-Mommy spent her first night away from you 6/6-6/8 (and 2nd night too!) and had some fun with her college roommates, but daddy had you and did great!
-You tried out your 1st taste of puffs on 6/11 and pretty much were a fan immediately! You loved being able to put something in your mouth all by yourself!
-For as easy as you are, you can shed some tears when you see us leave the room, especially mommy. You don’t like to be left alone in a room, even though you’re totally fine playing independently if we’re nearby!
-On the flip side, you break into the biggest grin when you see someone you recognize coming for you and you almost lift your arms up as if to say pick me up! We love it!
-You ate your first diced up food on your tray on 6/19
-Speaking of food, what a fantastic eater you are! You are loving each and every new food we introduce which has made it a lot of fun feeding you! So far you’re not picky! You will open that mouth wide and lunge toward it if we don’t get it to you quickly enough. You also are really enjoying the whole feed yourself stage as well and have gotten pretty proficient as you approached your 8th month birthday of picking up food off your tray and it making it to your mouth!
-Favorite pastime lately is to pull on mommy’s hair and mommy’s face and ironically enough, mommy’s not a huge fan of it =)
-Biggest struggle lately is you are breaking out of your swaddle and yet you still love it and sleep best in it. We have started using the woombie at night with both arms out and during the day for naps we use the miracle blanket and swaddle you with one arm out. However, you still manage to bust out of the whole thing if you don’t fall asleep quickly, leaving you on your tummy squealing as you toss and turn in the crib!
-You’ve gotten picky about where you like to sleep-hands down your favorite place is your very own crib. That’s where you sleep best and really it’s almost the only place you sleep soundly!
-While we were out to dinner as a family on our mountain trip, you got to sit in a high chair for the first time and you seemed rather content! (6/26)
-You got to experience your 1st tractor ride in the Blue Ridge Mountains when we went blueberry picking on 6/28
-Things you love to do lately: pull out toys from a container, bang two objects together to make loud noises, scoot around on your tummy, use your pincer grasp to pick up puffs, babble up a storm, reach for ANYTHING within a mile radius of you, babble up a storm, kick one leg up in the stroller and look quite chill, grab your paci if it’s within your reach and put it back in your mouth, put EVERYTHING in your mouth, grab any tag, string, cord, etc. and reach down for things and come back up to the sitting position.

Summer 2014 Bucket List-June Fun!

The days are long but the years are short...that's what older moms kept telling me when the twins were newborns...and in reality that quote rings way more true today than it did then. Boy do we love our three girls but boy are we exhausted each and every day. Day in and day out. There is no "off" time when most nights not one of our three sleeps through the night. With that being said, I sure don't want a single day or week or month for that matter pass us by where we haven't made the most of the days God has given us here on earth as a family of five. Thus the bucket list for Summer 2014 was born. And we have had an absolute ball checking things off our list. It gives us things to look forward to and also helps the twins have a little structure or routine in their day/week! Without further ado, here are a few things that were checked off the list for the month of JUNE!

#1: Daddy/Daughter date with Makenzie (aka monkey or squirt Jr.!)
Who doesn't love some one-on-one attention from their daddy?! These girls LOVE their dates so this one was no different and she was way overdue in it being her turn! They could be going to Home Depot and it wouldn't matter-it's the fact that they can do all the talking and receive all the affection and attention without having to share! (which is definitely rare with 3 little ones!) This particular night they took a drive past Aubie's house (Samford Hall in their world!) and then parked themselves at Gigi's to enjoy cupcakes and chatting together. It truly is amazing how long they talk about these times long after they are over.
Beautiful rainbow in the sky and a chance to remind the girls of God's promise!

#2: Go to the Montgomery Zoo with Daddy
Just call him "Super Dad." For real, who takes all three to the zoo, an hour away, on a hot Saturday without any help! This man does. =) Mommy was away on a girls weekend and daddy had the kiddos to himself. He decided this was the perfect opportunity to hit up the zoo, which he's been wanting to do for a while! This momma was dying to know how the trip was going and loved any pics sent throughout the day. I chuckled when the first one I received was the four of them huddled around the public restroom! What a huge feat but I sure hope he washed those hands good! He said things went beautifully and that besides being a ball of sweat when they left that all three girls did great!
He even managed to get their lunches packed before they left too!

#3: Feed the Ducks/Outdoor Picnic with Stuffed Animals!
We tackled it head on and had THE BEST time doing it. Sure it was a little warm when there wasn't a breeze but what memories. I told the girls they could bring as many animals as they wanted and we would throw them in teh back of the car and let them "eat" with us! They thought this was so.much.fun. As much as they love animals and beg all the time to bring lots with us, this was their chance. It took a few loads from their room to the car, but I think all their little animal friends were glad to be a part of the fun. This was also the first time that Ashton Kate was old enough to be aware of the ducks and she stared in utter amazement!
Seriously these things require a lot of energy to get everything together and get out the door but when we're back home and talking about them later on in the week, they always become some of their sweetest memories I have the privilege of sharing with my girls. I've learned it sure doesn't have to cost a lot of money to create some fantastic experiences for my little ones! And you definitely cannot put a price tag on the joy you see in their faces!
"Whoa, a real duck!"
The ducks got rather excited and came running towards them-so as they shrieked in fear I hoisted them up high as fast as I could. They were all giggles once they were safe! Those ducks acted like they hadn't seen food in days which made for quite a fun experience as they attacked each piece of bread thrown their way!

THE BEST...of friends!
8 Months going on 15...=)

#4: Summer Swing Concert at Monkey Park
We had a fabulous time last year going to a few of these concerts that they put on every Tuesday night so we made sure to put it on the calendar this year as well! We try not to make a huge habit of loading our girls up with pure sugar but summertime calls for some extra treats. Plus, how can you resist this kind of cuteness staring up at us!?=) The girls love to play on the playground, enjoy their snowcones, and listen to the band play...And sweet Ashton Kate? Well that girl just goes with the flow and is happy go lucky 99.9% of the time! We are so blessed by her countenance!

#5: Spend time at the pool!
Not having access to a neighborhood pool this summer has been a tad tough. It's hard to want to get out when it's pushing 100 degrees outside to do anything other than be submerged in some cool water. so we're super thankful for sweet friends who have let us tag along with them! Sunscreening this little trio is no quick easy task, but the reward of happy children makes it all worth it.
Caught red-handed...wish I could say this is was a first but nope...
And we made it to the pool! Now let's have some fun!
Adore making memories with these precious girls!
Two great little "mommies" to Baby Ashton Kate!

#6: Chick-Fil-A Family Night
Each Thursday, CFA puts on a fun event for the kiddos to participate in. From painting to crafts & Father's Day gifts, the girls love all things ChickFilA and all things art related. We love the sweet girls who put these events on and we all look forward to fun nights out of the house as a family! Win win for everyone! Added bonus: no stress over feeding two picky toddlers!

#7: Charter Bank's Family Fun Day at Butts Mill Farm
Kendall's company hosts an even once a year to involve the whole family. This year they had it out at Butts Mill Farm!So glad we were in town to enjoy a fun-filled day that had more activities for the kids than we could even fit into the day! Probably hands down the most sugar/treats our girls have ever consumed in one day, but hey you only live once! Cotton Candy, Sno-Cones, Popsicles, Ice Cream Sandwiches...yep they tried them all! The day would have been made for them if we had stopped at that, but they were able to also enjoy some bouncy houses, jungle-gym climbing, wading in the creek & some good ole' bingo playing! We had such a good time and once again Ashton Kate was the biggest trooper! Best baby ever!

Phew! What a fun month! Can't wait to check off more memories come July!

Out of Town Trips-June 2014

With Daddy not busy at work, we took full advantage of our weekends and enjoyed some out of town trips to Atlanta, Clayton, & Birmingham! The twins have begun to remember who lives where and love talking about which city we're traveling to! We had a ball and are so thankful for friends and family who are just a short drive away!

Visiting Mimi & Grandpa in Atlanta for the weekend...where MG learned the art of a "selfie" =)
Loved going swimming with the whole family!
A tad sunny out!
AK enjoying some quality time with the best aunt ever!
Mimi & Grandpa and 3 of the 5 grandchildren after church!
Makenzie is rather smitten over her little sister! Loves her to death!
Right after arriving home from Atlanta, we washed clothes, re-packed, and headed to Clayton for a couple days while Daddy was at a work conference up in New York. It's like camp at Nana & G-Dad's with the playground, sandbox, basketball goal, riding toys, & sweet neighbors who are gracious to share their pool with us when we're in town!
And let's not forget the plethora of toys to choose from if we happen to stay inside for the day!

Then for our last trip in June, we headed to Brmiingham to see dear old friends who we miss greatly for Father's Day weekend! We had such a fun time catching up, grillin' out, and letting the kids enjoy being together as well! We sure do miss this family being a 5-minute drive away to live life with! Thankful for a refreshing weekend to also celebrate the two husbands who are such rocks for our families!
Playing in a nearby creek-our prissy little girls didn't want their feet to get "dirty!"

We had a fun-filled month of weekend trips so I think we'll stay put in Auburn for a few weeks now...maybe...like after one last trip to the mountains next weekend! Stay tuned! =)

World Cup Party!

U-S-A! U-S-A!
That's what was being chanted around the house earlier this afternoon as the twins carried their "American flags" (aka auburn shakers!) Their daddy went to some effort in getting the twins into the soccer spirit before one of the big WORLD CUP games began! He sure can make anything fun around our house & in the process he even got Mommy excited about the game too! The decision was probably made in an attempt to unashamedly sit down and enjoy the game, even with three little ones still around needing care. And successful he was at luring the whole family into the fun of the event! We got the girls dressed in their patriotic attire, made an ice cream soccer ball cake, & huddled together on the sofa to cheer on TEAM USA! Still not convinced that they've recovered from daddy's loud screams or his disappointment in our team's loss, but either way, memories were made and they still talk about it days later! We hear a lot of "hey dad, remember when"...and it brings a smile to our faces!
