Dearest little rascal pants (and I can already hear you
saying no mama, I ASHTON KATE=) )
You are quite possibly the cutest mess we’ve ever laid eyes
on! You are into everything, MISS
INDEPENDENT, quite vocal, and just hilarious all at the same time. You truly
keep the whole family laughing! You are sensitive and kind, yet feisty and
boisterous too. Whether it’s good or it’s bad, you just live “large.” There’s
no better way to put it. =) Which in turn means you help us live larger, more
full lives as a result! We seriously can’t imagine our family without you part
of it. Sure you might act like every bit of your 2 year old self, but you add
so much joy and belly laughing to our lives too! Maddie Grace & Makenzie
mother you to no end, smother you with affection, show you immeasurable
patience when you steal their toys, and would give you your every wish if they
could. They simply adore you. They sing to you before naptime, they sing to you
when you’re sad. They rock you, hug you, and drag you all over the house, but
buy are they smitten over you. You truly are one doted on little sister. It
really is a beautiful picture of the love of Jesus. They love you in that same,
often undeserved way. They show you grace. They show you love when you are
unlovable at times, and most of all their affection for you doesn’t change
based on your performance. And sweetheart the same is so true of our Savior. Oh
that one day you would see the depth of His love for you. That despite your
sinful ways, He has already paid the debt and death that we all deserve. It really is the best news of all. The good
news of the Gospel is something I hope we never tire of telling you about. You
hear it quite often from us already in hopes that it will one day sink down
deep into your heart and soul. You are infinitely loved by mommy and daddy but
even more so by Jesus. We hope and pray you always know what a gift you are to
us and how much we strive to show you what it looks like to obey and glorify
God. We love you so much Ashton Kate Currie…and just like you tell everyone, “I
TWO…” yes sweetheart, you sure are!
Love, Mommy & Daddy
Milestones
and Memories from 26-29mo:
-The
biggest thing to note these few months is that you are officially potty
trained! On March 15th-17th (right at 2 yrs 4.5mo), we
embraced the not so fun reality of staying cooped up inside for three days of “boot
camp” as we call it and embraced the world of panties and the potty. You were
so ready…even though after Day 1 we weren’t convinced. You had a few more
accidents that first day than your big sisters did, but that’s ok-on day 2 it
clicked and you haven’t looked back since! You are such a big girl and it fits
your personality perfectly that you are no longer a “baby.” You seriously have
done fantastic! You pretty quickly kept your bed dry at naps and after only
about 10-12 days of changing your sheets in the morning, you now keep it dry
every night! Way to go sweet girl!
-You’re still a pretty fantastic sleeper all things
considered! The only thing that has altered that beautiful sleep has been potty
training. You call us from your crib if you need to go (amazing!) and we make a
bee line up there to you! Because you can’t get out to take yourself, it has
caused you to wake up sometimes at night to go potty, whereas you rarely used
to wake up. Hopefully it’s a phase and you will learn to hold it better and
wait til morning. =) Either way, we’re still thankful we can usually count on
you to sleep well! You also still take one nap each afternoon for at least 2
hrs generally…we don’t have a firm time you go down anymore which gives us
flexibility, just so long as you get one! And the funniest thing about your
sleep is that you still sleep with your lovey and/or blanket completely
covering your face!
-You are still miss picky picky when it comes to
mealtime if it’s not one of these favorites of yours… waffles with peanut butter, banana with peanut butter,
muffins, CEREAL (your absolute favorite), raisins, eggs, hummus, hot dogs,
avocados, yogurt, cheese, applesauce, squeeze packs, raspberries, strawberries,
pears, and mandarin oranges. I think that about covers your likes in the food
department. You are still finicky about weird textures and will spit stuff out
and scrape your tongue. (especially nuts, meat, and veggies)
-You are still miss chatty and will
talk to just about everyone we see out and about. You are also miss vocal and
scream A LOT. We are working diligently to curb this behavior and you are so
quick to say I sorry mama and tell us exactly why you are in time out (I “skeemed
and cried”). Bless your heart-you just can’t help yourself, ha! You hold your
own and scream for your life if someone tries to take something from you-call
it survival of the fittest here at home being the youngest of three. But boy,
everything always sounds like an emergency with you. =) A phase…we pray it
passes sooner rather than later! On the flip side, we have never had to worry a
day in your life about your speech development. You communicate extremely well
and the phrases and vocabulary you use seem well beyond your age. (chalk it up
to being the youngest of three talkative girls) We didn’t know it was possible
for you to already manipulate us at this age, but boy were we wrong! And favorite
phrase of yours is “I EAT YUNCH.” Doesn’t matter the time of day, it is always
eat yunch without fail. Too cute!
-You LOVE LOVE LOVE to be rocked and
honestly we do it. Nap after nap, night after night! You know why? You are only
little once and it’s passing oh so quickly. You love to be snuggled, sang to,
prayed with, talked with, and honestly it’s also the only time of day you are
still. You move at rapid speed all day long and it’s so sweet to see you
finally rest and be still. One of my favorite times of the day, twice a day, is
rocking you sweet lovebug!
-Your favorite things to do at this
age: no doubt your two favorite things to do are to play baby dolls and dress
ups with Maddie Grace & Makenzie. Let’s be honest, you rarely spend time
playing along with having two sisters. And it seems all parties involved
equally love it so it works well. You are where they are 99.9% of the day! And a
close 3rd favorite activity is watching “bideos” and taking pictures
of what’s around you. You absolutely LOVE mommy’s phone…we have to keep it
hidden or you go bananas if you can’t have it. Being outside is another thing
you still really enjoy. Whether it’s going on walks, riding your bike, playing
in the sandbox or backyard, you love it all. Doing sidewalk chalk and bubbles,
taking your baby for walks, or going to the park to play and swing, you love it
all! You’re not always an angel (you scream HIGHER at the top of your lungs on
the swing!) but you sure do have a good time!
You love to color or “cudder” as
you say, love to do arts and crafts, paint, and you want to be using whatever
the twins are using. Don’t’ be trying to give you baby art supplies. =) You
still love reading books and hands down your favorite is We’re Going on a
Bear Hunt. Pretty sure you don’t really need me to read it to you anymore
because you’ve got it memorized. You still love playing in the bathtub and
splashing around on your tummy and playing with the teapot set! Not a fan of
water in your eyes just like your sisters, but the rest of it you find big fun!
Truly though, mommy and daddy are so thankful for the perfect addition you are.
Watching the three of yall play SO WELL together makes our hearts so full of
thankfulness.
-Things to remember about you at this
stage: when praying, you bow your head and clasp your hands perfectly and keep
those eyes scrunched shut until the very end (prob the most precious thing you
do!!), still loving dressing yourself (every last article of clothing), You get
hyper and run around like a crazy girl when you get naked before bath time. You
love to get laughs from your sisters and will do the silliest faces or sounds
to get them dying laughing (you love being the clown of the family!) You still
shed big crocodile tears if mommy leaves the house…you love, love, love your
mama and are rather clingy at times and want to be held still. Although you
LOVE CBS so much and go running in the room to see Ms. Andrea and Ms.
Angela-makes me so happy to see you so excited! Still a terrible, terrible car
rider-so much so we dread every trip we have to take with you in tow because you
scream a good portion of it at the very least! And sleeping in your car seat? Not
even a remote possibility, even with no nap, even at midnight. Doesn’t matter,
you won’t be sleeping! Wears us out, but again…a phase. Won’t last forever
thank goodness!
You love to climb up to any sink and play in the water and wash your hands. It’s a regular occurrence to find you up there! And lastly, you are adorably affectionate and sympathetic! You hate when others are sad and are quick to comfort and give hugs and kisses!
